Asking For Suggestions In A
Restaurant
If you are eating out in France, and you aren’t
familiar with the food, you may like to ask for recommendations
on things to try.
Even if you are familiar with the food,
you may like to ask anyway, just to practice your
French.
Either way, here are a few helpful
phrases to use if you would like to ask the waiters for a
suggestion.
Firstly, if you would like to say “I
don’t know what to have” you say “Je ne sais pas quoi
prendre”.
Then you can ask for some
suggestions!
To say “what do you recommend?”
you say “Qu’est-ce que vous me conseillez?” in
French.
For example, if you want to ask “What
do you recommend as a starter?” You say “Qu’est-ce que vous me
conseillez comme entrée?”
If you what to just ask “What do you
recommend me to have?” You can just say “Qu’est-ce que tu me
conseilles de prendre?”
Another thing that you may like to get
a suggestion on is what wine to have. To ask “Which wine do you
recommend?” you will say “Qu’est-ce que tu me conseilles de
prendre?”
