Learning To Ask Questions In FrenchIf you’re learning French just to be able to get the most out of a holiday to France (or a French-speaking country) then one of the topics you will want to learn well is how to ask questions. If you are new to somewhere, you are probably going to need to know how to ask questions… especially if the people you’re talking to don’t speak your language. So with this in mind, we would like to teach you how to ask questions in French. Let’s start with “Combien”. You say it like this: “kon-be-ahn”. This word means “how much” or “how many” in English. It is useful for asking how much something is to buy, and many other situations like this. The next word is “Où”. This word means “where” and is useful for asking things like where is the bathroom, where is the hotel, etc. |

The next question word that you may find useful is “Quand”. This means “when”. Then we have “comment” (which is pronounced more like “kom- on”). This word means “How”. If you need to ask a question starting with “Why” then the word to use in French is “pourquoi” Next we have the word “Who” which in French is “Qui” (pronounced like “kee”) And lastly we have the word “What” which is “Quoi”. (It’s pronounced just like the ending of pourqoi… like this “kwah”). That just about wraps up all the different question words in French. It should be quite simple to learn, but it will also help you out a lot if you ever need to ask questions when nobody around speaks your language. Think of it as survival French. |
