Saying What You Do For A
Living
When you’re talking to someone about yourself,
you may want to tell people what you do for a living. This is
actually very easy to say.
You simply use “Je suis” which means “I
am”. So for example, I could say “Je suis enseignant” which
would mean “I’m a teacher”.
There isn’t much point in me giving you
the vocab for every job… because we would be here forever, and
I would still miss plenty out!
So instead, I recommend you turn to
your French dictionary (you do have one, right?) and look up
the word for your job.
Another thing: Sometimes you may want
to say “I work as a” rather than “I am” when it comes to
telling people what you do for a living. To say “I work as a”
in French, you simply say “Je travaille en tant
que”.
To say “my name is…” in French,
is “Je m’appelle…” So if I was to say “my name is Nikki”, I
would say “Je m’appelle Nikki”.
Now that’s how to say what YOUR name
is. But what if you want to talk about someone else?
To say “His name is…” you would say “Il
s’appelle…”
And to say “Her name is…” you would say
“Elle s’appelle…”
After you’ve told someone your own
name, you can ask them for their name.
To say “what’s your name?” you say
“Vous vous appelez comment?”
And that’s all there is to it! Once
you’ve learnt this, you know all there is to know about telling
someone your name, and asking someone their name.
