Talking About Likes and
Dislikes
One way of getting to know someone more through
conversation is talking about things you like or dislike. So
this is what I will be teaching you today.
First, let’s give you the phrases, and
then we will give you some examples.
To say that you like something, you
will use “j’aime bien”. This means “I like”. Another word that
the French like to use is “j’aime”.
This means “I love”, which is a
stronger way of saying that you like something.
To say “I don’t like” in French, you
will use “je n’aime pas”.
Now let’s see some examples.
“J’aime bien voyager en train”.
This means I like travelling by train.
You could also say “J’aime voyager en
train. This means I love travelling by train.
Simple so far, right?
Next we have dislike. You could say “Je
n’aime pas voyager en train”. This means I don’t like
travelling by train.
To ask someone if they like something,
you can say “Tu aimes bien…” followed by the word for what your
asking about. “Tu aimes bien” means “Do you
like”.
