Useful French Colors
In this lesson you are going to learn the names
for the different colors in French.
By the end of this lesson, you will
have increased your French vocabulary, as well as improved your
pronunciation of French words.
You never know, this could be just what
you need when you want to buy a piece of clothing in a
different color!
Let’s get started:
The color Pink, in French, is “rose”.
It’s pronounced in a similar way as you would say rose in
English.
Next we have black, which is “noir” or
“noire” in French. It’s pronounced like this:
“nwahr”.
Then we have white, which is “blanc” or
“blanche”.
Then brown, which is either
“marron” or “brun”.
Then purple, which is either “violet”
or “pourpre”.
Then blue which is “bleu” or “bleue”.
It’s pronounced “bluh”.
Then we have green which is “vert” or
“verte”. It’s pronounced the same as it looks.
Then we have yellow, which is “jaune”.
It’s pronounced “zhohn”.
Then orange, which is “orange” in
French (it’s the same). But it’s pronounced like this: “oh
ranzh”
Then we have red… which is “rouge”.
Pronounced “roozh”.
Lastly, we have gray… which is “gris”
or “grise”. It’s pronounced more like “greez”.
Two other useful colors to know,
especially if you are interested in buying jewelry, are gold
and silver.
Gold is “doré” or “dorée” and is
pronounced “doh-ray”. And silver is “argenté” or “argentée”.
It’s pronounced ahr-zhawn-tay.
These are some of the most basic colors
you’ll need to know if you’re ever shopping for clothes. They
shouldn’t take too long to learn, and they may come in handy
when you least expect it. At the very least, you’ve learnt a
few new words in French!
